Deke is a great guy and he makes AWESOME barbecue! My favorites are the ribs and the ham and beef sandwich. He also does other interesting things like gumbo and boudin. During the holidays, I often have him smoke or fry a turkey for me. In my opinion, Deke’s and LC’s are the very best of the great Kansas City barbecue scene.
Some of the best Bar-B-Que I’ve had in this town, and that’s saying a lot considering it’s KC. The place is a little hole in the wall, run by an old man named Deke and one of his buddies, so it takes a little while to get your food, but it’s worth it. You can tell it’s fresh and it’s always piping hot when you get it.
The guy’s sauce is really sweet and savory just the way I like it, and the meat is super juicy and full of smokey flavor. The gumbo is exceptional as well. It’s pack with like six different meats and is really flavorful. If you’re ever going towards Raytown on Raytown Rd, I definitely recommend stopping in this wonderful little joint.
The portions are HUGE, and the price is great. They make they’re own sausage which is awesome. The owner is a very nice man, and so is his family that works there.
